The prolonged spell of incessant rain that engulfed West Bengal and its capital, Kolkata, for six consecutive days, owing to the impact of cyclonic storm Michong in the Bay of Bengal, has finally ceased. The Meteorological Department confirmed the arrival of sunshine in Bengal on Saturday, indicating a shift towards more stable weather conditions.
According to the department's statement, Kolkata experienced a minimum temperature of 18.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal, and a maximum temperature of 22.01 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal.
The improved weather is not limited to Kolkata alone, as other parts of the state, including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Purulia, and Bankura, are also witnessing similar conditions.
The Meteorological Department further forecasts a dry spell with no possibility of rain in the state until the next week, with temperatures expected to gradually decrease. North Bengal regions, including Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong, are also experiencing normal weather conditions.
